Installation

Installation

Quotio is a native macOS application designed to run in the menu bar. This guide covers system requirements and installation methods.

System Requirements

Before installing, ensure your system meets the following requirements:

  • Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.0 or later.
  • Architecture: Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) only. Intel Macs are not supported.
  • Disk Space: Approximately 100MB for the application binary.
  • Network: An active internet connection is required to communicate with AI provider APIs.

Installation Methods

Currently, the primary way to install Quotio is via the direct download link.

  1. Download the latest .dmg file from the Releases page.
  2. Open the downloaded file Quotio-x.x.x.dmg.
  3. Drag the Quotio icon into the Applications folder.
  4. Eject the disk image.

Unsigned Binary

The app is not signed with an Apple Developer certificate yet. If macOS blocks the app, run the following command in your terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Quotio.app

Homebrew (Coming Soon)

We are working on adding Quotio to Homebrew Cask.

Permissions

Upon first launch, Quotio may request:

  • Notifications: To alert you when quota limits are reached or when failover events occur.

Granting this permission is recommended for the best experience.

Verifying Installation

To verify that Quotio has been installed correctly:

  1. Open Quotio from your Applications folder or via Spotlight (Cmd + Space).
  2. Look for the Quotio icon in the macOS menu bar (top right of the screen).
  3. Click the icon to reveal the dropdown menu. You should see a status indicator showing "No accounts configured".

Next Steps

Once installed, proceed to the Quick Start guide to configure your first AI provider account.
