First Run

This page explains what happens the first time you launch Quotio and the initial setup steps you should complete.

What happens on first launch?

When you open Quotio for the first time:

• Quotio starts as a menu bar application
• A new icon appears in the macOS menu bar
• No providers are configured yet
• No quota data is available

This is expected. Quotio does not come with any preconfigured accounts.

macOS permissions

Quotio may request certain permissions on first launch, depending on your setup.

Typical prompts include:

• Permission to run downloaded software
• Network access for communicating with AI providers

If macOS blocks the app, you can either:

• Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or
• Run this command in your terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Quotio.app

⚠️ Note: The app is not signed with an Apple Developer certificate yet.

Open Settings

To begin configuration:

1. Click the Quotio icon in the menu bar
2. Select Settings

This is where you manage agents, quotas, and failover behavior.

Add at least one provider

Quotio requires at least one connected provider to track quota.

1. Click the Quotio icon in the menu bar
2. Select Open App to open the main window
3. Go to the Providers tab
4. Click Add Provider (plus button)
5. Choose your AI provider and follow the authentication flow

Once connected, Quotio will start tracking quota usage for this provider.

Verify everything is working

After connecting a provider, check that:

• The provider appears in the Providers tab
• The provider shows as "Connected" (green status)
• Quota information begins to appear (if supported by the provider)

If quota data does not appear immediately, give it a few moments to sync.

Common first-run issues

The menu bar icon does not appear

• Make sure Quotio is running
• Check System Settings → Login Items
• Relaunch the app

Quota shows as unknown

• Some providers require at least one request before quota data is available
• Verify your API key is valid
